Spring is here, the sap is rising, jobs are waiting!

It’s been said that ‘everything comes to those who wait’.  What they don’t tell you is that when it comes it is usually a disaster or a disappointment!  That’s because anything worth having in life – from finding your significant other to landing a plum job – is usually achieved by dint of considerable personal effort, or at least by putting yourself out a bit.

If you want a motto to live by, ‘Carpe Diem’ or ‘Seize the Moment’ is a better one.  So why do we procrastinate about those necessary but unappetising tasks?

We know the car needs servicing, but we wait until the MOT runs out – and the road tax is due – before frantically hunting up a garage that can give us a same day service.  We know we should have regular dental check-ups, but we wait until we break a tooth on a boiled sweet or develop an abscess before screaming for an emergency appointment.

Well here at Harpers we can’t help you with either of the above, but we can help you anticipate and avoid another perennial problem, and one we’ve encountered frequently over the winter months: boiler breakdown.

It’s been a long hard winter, and if your boiler has survived it, it’s probably because it had a good service beforehand.  And now that Spring is upon us, the time is ripe to have it checked out and ensure another year of reliable performance.

During the spring and summer months the demands on your central heating are relatively light, and it’s the best time to have your boiler serviced and the system flushed of the silt and corrosion that accumulates in pipes and radiators.  If ignored, the latter will develop into a sticky paste that causes blockages and cold spots and could ultimately result in seizure of the heat pump.

On the plus side, a well-maintained system will outlast an unattended one by many years and, trust us, the cost of maintenance is a fraction of the cost of replacement.

Another thing that people put off that they know they shouldn’t is making a will.  Nobody likes to think about it, but if they don’t the survivors suffer the consequences of being left intestate.

The death of a boiler hardly comes in the same category, but the principle holds good.  Given the cost of boiler replacement, it’s worth investing in a quality product in the first place.  At Harpers we deal in the best – Worcester – all of whose models come with a 10 year guarantee.  And regularly serviced it will last you a lifetime.

So, Spring is here, the sap is rising, and that to-do list is waiting.  Call us and get the boiler maintenance job ticked off!
