Time was when plumbers were only called out to fix a dripping tap or unblock a drain. And whilst that remains an essential service, today’s plumber is more likely to style himself a bathroom designer and fitter, or even more grandly, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning engineer.
Lifestyles and living standards have changed over the years; the expectations of homeowners have increased, and the demands made on tradespeople have grown accordingly.
Where once a cast iron bath or a butler sink might have done a lifetime’s service, bathroom and kitchen makeovers now take place as frequently as homes change hands, or even more often as interior design fashions come and go.
We might also add that regulatory standards have changed too, placing ever more stringent demands on trade qualifications. Not everyone in the industry has adapted to these changes as well as their customers might hope or expect.
Some have become a Jack of All Trades (and master of none). Others, like ourselves, have put together a team of professionals who are qualified in each of the complementary trades – plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, plastering etc – involved in bathroom design.
Our core competency is, of course, in heating and gas fitting, and we are officially registered as both OFTEC and Gas Safe approved suppliers. Our other team members also hold relevant qualifications in their fields. So when you call us in you can rest assured of a prompt, professional job.
Having said that, we recognise that the aesthetic side of bathroom design – the choice of styles, colours and materials – is very much a personal choice on the part of our customers. We make no pretensions to being interior designers (a velvet jacket just doesn’t look right worn over a pair of dungarees!) but we still do everything we can to ensure that your preferences are met.
To give you the widest possible choice, we deal with all the leading bathroom and sanitary suppliers, including Aqualisa, Armitage Shanks, Ideal Standard, Saniflo, Cross Water, Trevi, Rak, Roca, Hansgroche, Grohe and Bristan. And we’ll give you an armful of brochures to sift through and earmark the makes and models you prefer.
We’ll also make a home visit to survey the space, and having agreed a check list of products and appliances we’ll put together a computer generated mock-up of the finished design for your approval, together with a firm quotation for parts and service.
Finally, of course we’ll fulfil our traditional role of plumbing it all in for you. We bet there’s not many interior designers who could do all that for you!
